ding, a variety of artists and creative professionals call the studio home and work from their own studios located around the space, say hello if you meet at the coffee machine. You’ll have plenty of space for your team to spread out, the studio has a comfortable seating area for your lunch break as well as a private changing and make up room. Any profit from studio hire bookings goes directly towards the development of our programme of art, culture and community engagement.
D-Light team are nationally and internationally acclaimed professionals in their fields of arts and industry. This is a rare opportunity for DCC to partner with an organisation that has shown outstanding and successful curation, leadership, service and care for the local and wider arts community, as well as the building itself. Emergency support and long term commitment from DCC is all that's missing, anything less is not a match for what this team has already given to this building and community.

"The uncertainty of D-Lights future is symbolic of wider cultural neglect, in favour of extortionate hotels and barren hotel blocks. Over the past 15 years, D-Light has redirected all profits back into program such as artists' residencies, exhibitions, music gigs, and subsidising creatives. Nobody wants to book a hotel, or work, in a city with nothing outside the office or hotel room." District Magazine
In Ireland, it’s beginning to feel like 3 things in life are promised: death, taxes, and the closure of beloved community third spaces.

In Our Own Image Youth Engagement Project - An exhibition by Holly / Tori / Miranda / Bianca / Favour / Raven / Robert / Olivia / Tennyola / Sara / Lucy
In 2022 D-Light partnered with BLOW Photo Book Programme awardee Róisín White and Artist Ali Waters to facilitate a series of workshops for local young people. The goal of ‘’In Our Own Image Youth Engagement Project’’ was to provoke self exploration and expression through photography and visual art, to develop their photography skills using film and digital cameras, and to foster discussion and awareness about how and why we make images, and the importance of representation and the intention of self exploration and expression through photography and visual art.
The workshops ran for a duration of 8 weeks and culminated with a 2 week exhibition featuring over 100 thoughtful, playful, mischievous and beautiful photographs shot almost entirely on film!
The project was showcased alongside The Rise, an exhibition curated by BLOW Photo and supported by Photo Museum Ireland which featured nine young photographers whose work indicates new directions in contemporary photography.
In Our Own Image Youth Engagement Project was one of the events produced under the umbrella of Reframe - a creative programme of events and activities that aim to inspire, activate and empower by shifting perspectives and building lasting connections between the local and wider Dublin community.

We kindly request your assistance as we continue to strive to support young artists and the local community by signing our petition, thank you.
In November 2022, D-Light partnered with BLOW Photo and Photo Museum Ireland to present “In Our Own Image / Chapter Six - The Rise.”
The show provided a platform for nine of Ireland’s young photographers who explored new avenues and pushed the medium in new directions.
The exhibition showcased work by artists Clare Lyons, David Copeland, Donal Talbot, Elinor O’Donovan, George Voronoy, Iryna Baklan, Jolane Schaffner, Karl Magee, and Róisín White, featuring a mix of photographic media and playful, personal, dark, and light themes.
Additionally, we invited local schools and youth centres to participate in an 8-week-long photography workshop led by one of our artists, Róisín White, an awardee of the FUSE BLOW Photo Book Program. Together with a locally-based artist, Ali Waters, they created an intimate space for a group of 10 young people to regularly meet at D-Light, learning new creative languages to express themselves and connect with each other.
This collaboration is a perfect example of the magic that happens when we combine D-Light’s values of Creativity, Community, and Well-Being. It is of utmost importance to us to continue providing this service and supporting artists and the community. We ask for your support in our mission by signing our petition:

In 2021, Michael Darragh MaCauley initiated a partnership between D-Light Studios, NEIC, and the Reformation. Together, they sponsored a scholarship for residents and workers in the North East Inner City and started a Yoga Teacher Training course.
The course lasted 11 months, and it was so successful that we ran a second edition the following year!
By mid-2023, we had almost 40 fully qualified yoga teachers in the local community.
In September, we refurbished one of our rooms, converting it into a yoga and dance studio. We planned to run regular courses, workshops, and classes, hiring some of our graduates and providing much-needed wellbeing and body embodiment activities to the community.
Sadly, our landlord, DCC, requested that we cease all activities soon after, and we have never been able to open up our new space to the public.
We believe that these courses were a life-changing experience for many of the attendees and gave them tools that they can use forever.
Homebeat was established in 2011 and has grown from a series of celebrated, local artist centric house-concerts, to becoming one of the most forward leaning independent creators & curators of innovative & atmosphere led music events across the country.
Emmet and the team were an inspiring addition to the music and events landscape, and when they began hosting their cherished events at our beloved D-Light, we felt our space come to life in ways we only previously dreamed of.
Homebeat hosted so many memorable events with us, but the one we want to highlight here is when Lubomyr Melnyk came to town thanks to Emmet.
“This was one of the moments I felt the real magic and potential of our Studio B. Lubomyr and Homebeat in the house was an experience I will never forget. It was a full house, a hired upright piano and one of the fastest pianists in the world. Lubomry held our gaze and our attention for the entire performance.
I remember we had to put a bucket beside the piano because of the leaks in the roof. I felt so bad for Emmet and Lubomyr, but they were both very understanding. I wonder does anyone else remember this night with us?” - Stace Gill Creative Director.
This was in 2016, and not only have all landlords along the way done nothing to protect this stunning property, we have endured several destructive floods and leaks. Now we are facing closure despite our efforts and our own investments to maintain and improve this building. We are on our knees but there is still hope. These beautiful events with such heartfelt curation and teams are one of the reasons we keep going.

Save D-Light - Is DCC going to protect or close down another Arts and Community Space?
D-Light is at huge risk of closure and we urge our landlord - Dublin City Council to move quickly and work within a reasonable timeframe to protect our arts and community vision in North Inner City Centre as part of the fading Dublin cultural scene.
We have been tenants and curators of this building for over 15 years and we believe it’s time to not only secure our existence but to support our efforts and our cultural mission.
After four years of negotiating with our landlord for a long-term lease and plans for necessary renovations to keep the building operating in its current format, we are now being forced to leave the premises due to long overdue fire safety works. We have no lease security, no time frame or schedule of works, and no support for our survival. Our exit from the building means our end.
If you believe that our space and organisation is of value please sign the petition, here is what we are asking:
1. That Dublin City Council (our legal landlord) immediately undertakes the necessary and required fire safety works while respecting our occupancy of the space.
2. To ensure our long-term survival, we urgently need DCC to guarantee our tenancy with a lease.
D-Light Studios is a social enterprise, where profits from the studio hire go directly towards developing and curating not-for-profit initiatives such as: artists’ residencies, exhibitions, music gigs, performances, shows, markets, wellbeing activities, community events, workshops and inspirational talks as well as subsidising artists’ and community rental rates.
Once all the pressing issues with the building are resolved, D-Light Projects - a not-for-profit entity is ready to continue to serve the arts, local and wider communities of Dublin. We are dedicated to curating a rich and diverse program for personal growth, collaboration and community well-being through Culture and Creativity.

D-Light Studios is a creative multi-functional space housed in a converted woolen mill. We are located in the heart of Dublin 1, just a minute walk from the historical Five Lamps area and only five minutes from Connolly Station. The studio is primarily used as a film and photography location, however we are always open to proposals for creative uses of this huge and unique space.
We have two studio spaces available for hire:
Studio A is a large, dynamic space filled with natural light. It’s original Belfast iron pillars and pitched roof, in addition to an infinity wall and changing room make this studio particularly suitable for photography. In addition to photo shoots, this space has hosted yoga classes, television commercials, exhibitions, corporate events, product launches and indoor markets. A unique feature of this space is the ramp which allows cars to be driven into the studio from street level - ideal for loading in and out heavy equipment.
Studio B features an open floor plan, a high beamed ceiling, stone walls, four large industrial windows and a fireplace. This studio also has a make-up and changing area. We’ve had all sorts of activities happen in this very special room; theatre rehearsals, live music gigs, dance performances, exhibitions, music videos, charity events, 360 filming, live streaming and countless photography and film shoots.
If you are interested in using either studio for your next creative project then get in touch at [email protected] or call us on (01) 430 4905. Visit our website here for more info.
